Wheelchair users with disabilities may be at increased risk of developing pressure injuries and experiencing falls due to prolonged periods of sitting and limited ability to monitor changes in their condition. Early detection and timely intervention are important to support their health, safety, and independence.
Solution
The project develops a smart monitoring padthat helps wheelchair users and their caregivers identify potential risks of pressure injuries and falls. Using sensors and automated alerts, the system provides timely information that enables preventive action and supports ongoing self-monitoring and care management.
Outcomes
The project aims to support wheelchair users with disabilities and their caregivers by:
Improving health, safety, and overall wellbeing;
Enabling wheelchair users to monitor their condition and take preventive action more independently;
Reducing the risk of pressure injuries and falls through early detection and itnervention; and
Increase the self-confidence and participation in daily activities.
