Problem Statement

Demand for Adult Disability Care Services (ADCS) continues to exceed available capacity, resulting in some adults with disabilities waiting extended periods for services. In addition, adults with disabilities may have limited opportunities to engage in meaningful learning and skill-building activities that reinforce and maintain their functional, cognitive and social abilities.

Solution

iTILES is an assistive playware system that uses interactive, game-based activities to support learning, rehabilitation, and skill development for persons with disabilities. The system comprises wireless interactive tiles that provide audio, visual, and tactile feedback in response to users’ movements and actions. An accompanying mobile application tracks performance and provides insights to users and caregivers, enabling activities to be tailored to individual needs and abilities.

Outcomes

The project aims to support persons with disabilities by:

Enhancing motor, cognitive, and social skills through game-based activities;
Supporting the development and maintenance of functional and independent living skills ; and
Reducing the rehabilitation and training burden on caregivers by enabling more independent and self-directed learning.

Digital Dream is a social enterprise that develops technology-enabled solutions to support learning, engagement and inclusion across diverse communities. Working closely with disability service providers and educators, it designs innovative digital tools that enhance participation, skill development and quality of life for persons with disabilities.

For the iTILES project, Digital Dream collaborated with Embodied Sensing Pte. Ltd and the Augmented Human Lab (NUS School of Computing) to develop interactive assistive technologies that support learning, rehabilitation and independent living.
