Assistive Technology Assessment & Training for the Visually Impaired
iC2 PrepHouse
Problem Statement
There are several gaps in current assistive technology support:
There is a lack of expertise to assess and train persons with visual impairment in the area of assistive technology;
This results in inefficiencies and potential cost wastage when purchased equipment is not effectively utilised; and
Wastage also occurs when users are not trained to use the equipment or when the equipment is deemed unsuitable.
Solution
The programme aims to provide comprehensive assistive technology assessment and training for persons with visual impairment.
Trained professionals will conduct comprehensive assessments and design individualised programmes for assistive technology instruction and training.
The individual needs of the visually impaired will be identified in the assessment stage of the programme and addressed through the individualised training programme.
Outcomes
Persons with disabilities can make informed decisions and plans through better support and access to information, programmes, and product navigation. They can also develop their life skills to their fullest potential.
